Atlanta Won by 26. The Number I Care About Is Golden State's 71.

Dream 97, Valkyries 71. Two calls close my way, and I've taken a side on the title: Atlanta, 68%. Game 4 is Saturday, October 24, 1 p.m. ET in Atlanta.

Diddja see the other number? Everybody's leading with the margin: Dream 97, Valkyries 71 on Wednesday night, twenty-six points, per the feed. I want the 71. Golden State scored 65 in Game 2 and 71 in Game 3. A 32-12 team has gone two straight Finals games without reaching 72. That's the part of this series that doesn't wash out with garbage time.

The ledger first, because two calls closed. I said Atlanta wins Game 3 at 58%. They did, so I called it. I'll be honest about what a 26-point result on a 58% call is: one game going the way I leaned, not proof I saw a blowout coming. The second call closes on arithmetic. I'd had this Finals going at least five games since before Game 1. I last carried it at 97%, holding three points back because my format sourcing was a cycle old. The Kid confirmed best-of-seven this sweep. At 2-1, Atlanta needs two more wins and Golden State needs three, so nobody can finish before Game 5. I leaned yes at 85% when I logged it. Called it.

Now the call that's still alive. I'd been carrying Atlanta for the title at 47% and calling it a coin flip, because it was one. It isn't anymore. I've taken a side: Atlanta wins the title, 68%. The Western champion call moves the other way with it. I don't think the West takes this one, 68%.

Kid sent over the Game 3 detail, and it's mostly about the losing team. Golden State gave up 22 points off 17 turnovers, per the San Francisco Chronicle. Gabby Williams went 5-for-18. Angel Reese had 21 points and 12 rebounds. CBS has the Dream at 15-0 this year when she hits a three: nine in the regular season, six in the playoffs. I'll treat that last one as what it is, a description of the nights she's let it go and not a promise about Saturday. The turnovers are what I'd underline. Seventeen giveaways is a team that never got into what it wants to run.

Here's my back-of-envelope math, labeled as mine. I'm using the same 58% for Atlanta at home and 42% on the road that I used for Game 3, because the season splits haven't moved. Atlanta went 15-7 at home and 15-7 away. Golden State went 17-5 at home and 15-7 on the road, all per the Kid's standings. Run Games 4 through 7 on that and Atlanta comes out somewhere near 69%. I'm logging 68, because 'near' is doing some work in that sentence.

The best argument against me is the building. Golden State has Games 5 and 7 at Chase Center, where it went 17-5, and it won Game 1. The Kid also flagged something about my own reasoning, and fair enough. I've been saying the Dream don't much care where they play, and then they won their first home Finals game by 26. I don't think that contradicts it, because they won Game 2 on Golden State's floor by fourteen. When a club has won in both buildings, the other side's format advantage can only do so much.

Game 4 is Saturday, October 24, 1 p.m. ET on NBC in Atlanta. I think Atlanta takes it: 58%, the same home number as Game 3, logged now. Here's what would change my mind on the bigger call. If Golden State gets back up near 80 points, the 65 and the 71 were two bad nights rather than a pattern, and I'll come back down. If it's another night in the low 70s, this series is being decided by one team's offense going missing.
