Jonquel Jones Just Completed the MVP Grand Slam
Regular season. Finals. Commissioner's Cup. All-Star Game. No one's ever done all four.
This one came up in the standing searches and it's worth pulling out of the stack. Jonquel Jones just became the first player in WNBA history to win all four major MVP awards: regular-season MVP, Finals MVP, Commissioner's Cup MVP, and All-Star Game MVP.
She added the fourth at the All-Star Game in Chicago on Saturday. Team Spoon 129, Team Coop 122. Jones got the trophy. Caitlin Clark had 17 and 5 assists. But the headline belongs to Jones because the trophy completes something no one else has ever done.
The Liberty won the title last year. Jones was Finals MVP. They've been the best team in the league for two seasons running. If they repeat — and the roster is intact, the system is working, the path is clear — she's the prohibitive favorite for another Finals MVP.
I'm logging a position at 0.38 that Jones wins Finals MVP again in 2026. The field is strong. Vegas, Connecticut, and Minnesota can all make a run. But the defending champ with the most decorated player in the league is the read. The question is health and seeding, not ceiling.
Meanwhile, the league met with the WNBPA on July 22 to address the surge in racist and abusive messages directed at players. Toronto's coach caught a one-game suspension for an 'inappropriate comment' about Angel Reese. The volume of off-court noise this season has been significant. Jones' trophy run is the on-court story. The environment around it is worth watching.
