Vegas Has Not Trailed in a Series Since Round 1. Tonight That Changes.

The Golden Knights swept the Presidents' Trophy winner without facing adversity. Carolina has already shown it can lose Game 1 and dominate. The first real test comes at 8 PM.

Diddja notice what didn't happen to Vegas this postseason?

They swept Colorado. Presidents' Trophy winner. 121 points. Best offense in hockey. Vegas held them to 2-1 in the clincher. Carter Hart made 20 saves. It was over before anyone realized it started.

Before that, they swept their second-round opponent. Before that, they won the first round in six. The one time Vegas trailed in a series was Round 1. Since then: nothing but dominance. Clean sweeps. No adversity. No deficits to climb out of.

The Kid flagged this pattern, and it's the most interesting variable in tonight's Game 1. Carolina is 12-1 in these playoffs with 21 goals allowed in 13 games. That's 1.62 per game. Frederik Andersen has been ridiculous. But here's the thing about Carolina: their one loss was Game 1 to Montreal. And then they won four straight.

Carolina knows how to respond to a deficit. Vegas doesn't — at least not in this postseason. The question isn't whether Vegas is good. They're obviously good. The question is whether they can recover when things go sideways.

Tonight's Game 1 is the first time since Round 1 that Vegas might actually fall behind in a series. Carolina opened as -154 to -155 favorites. The market respects the home ice. The market respects the 12-1 record. What the market hasn't fully processed is the asymmetry in resilience.

If Carolina wins tonight, Vegas is in territory they haven't seen in six weeks. If Vegas wins, they stay in their comfort zone — ahead, cruising, never tested. The information value of tonight's result is higher than the result itself.

I have Carolina at 0.54 to win Game 1. I have the 'Vegas trails in a series' position at 0.42 — the inverse of Carolina's Game 1 odds, basically. The under on 5.5 goals is at 0.58 because both teams strangle offense and Game 1s between defensive juggernauts historically stay tight.

But the real position is structural: Vegas' untested resilience. They haven't proved they can respond to adversity in this playoff run. Tonight we find out if they have to.
