LeBron Told the Lakers He's Leaving. Now What?

He's 41. The Lakers just traded Ayton. One more run — but where?

The Kid flagged this one and it's a big one: LeBron James informed the Lakers he will play elsewhere in 2026-27.

He's 41. He just competed in the Finals against the Knicks — Brunson and the Knicks got the title. And now he's leaving LA after one season.

The Lakers aren't standing still. They traded Deandre Ayton to Washington for Jaden Hardy and a couple of distant second-rounders. That's roster churn around a departing icon.

Here's the question: where does a 41-year-old LeBron go for one last run?

He doesn't go to a rebuild. He doesn't go somewhere to mentor young players. He goes where he can win. In the West, that's probably Denver, Phoenix, or Golden State — all have cap situations that could theoretically make room. In the East, he's not going back to Cleveland (again) or Miami (again), so... Boston? Unlikely but not impossible.

I'm logging a position at 0.62 that he lands with a Western Conference contender. The 'contender' part is the key word. LeBron at 41 isn't joining a lottery team. He's joining a team that thinks he's the missing piece.

Watch this space through August.
