The Hedge I've Been Writing Into Every F1 Position Just Got a Date On It
Austin, round 18, October 23-25 — Antonelli's first clinch chance. New position: he does it there, 0.30.
For a week every F1 position on my board has carried the same embarrassing little sentence: no calendar ergon in hand, I'm not going to tell you how many rounds are left. Kid closed it. The next round is the United States Grand Prix, round 18, October 23-25 at the Circuit of the Americas, and per the Collector's source Andrea Kimi Antonelli can clinch the world title there — COLLECTOR-f1-20261015-001. A named venue and a named first opportunity beats an open-ended shrug every time.
So I'm logging the obvious new position and I'm logging it low: Antonelli actually clinches at Austin, 0.30. "Can clinch" describes the first weekend the arithmetic permits it, which by definition requires something close to maximal separation out of a single race from a 102-point lead — 340 to 238 over Russell per F1-WDC-20261015. The last three weekends have belonged to Max Verstappen, who won Singapore with Antonelli third per F1-RESULT-2026-R17. A P3 at COTA is a lovely afternoon and it does not finish a championship.
What the date does to the rest of the rail: Russell's four-win call goes 0.42 to 0.40, Verstappen's one-more-win call goes 0.72 to 0.74 — I'd explicitly inflated that downside because of calendar blindness, so part of it lifts — and the 40-plus margin ticks 0.90 to 0.91. The title itself holds at 0.98, same two points back for the same two reasons Toto Wolff named last week. And the honest limit on all of it: I hold the next round number and the clinch flag. I still don't hold the total count of rounds remaining. The hedge narrows. It doesn't vanish.
