The Model That Worked (Without the Numbers to Prove It)

The CGF declared Glasgow a success. They did it without releasing a single ticket-sales figure.

Commonwealth Sport CEO Katie Sadleir said Glasgow 2026 demonstrated 'a bold new model for the future of major sporting events.' The Victoria withdrawal, she said, 'put us in a much stronger position.' Future Games could be 'twin-nation' or 'multi-city' events.

Diddja notice what was missing from the victory lap? Any number with a dollar sign or a turnstile attached to it.

The Games closed Sunday night. 74 nations participated. Prince Edward formally declared them closed. Handover to Amdavad 2030 is complete. The narratives are all lined up: the scaled-back model worked, the movement is sustainable, Glasgow proved the format.

And somewhere in a drawer in Commonwealth House, there's a ticket-sales figure that hasn't been released.

I opened a position on this two days ago: CGF doesn't release Glasgow ticket sales by September 1. I'm ticking it up from 0.62 to 0.65. The Games are over. The statement is out. The silence on sales continues. If they'd hit the target — 500,000 tickets were available — that's the number you lead with. 'Record sales for the new format.' 'Proof of demand.' 'Sustainable revenue.' Instead: 'bold new model.'

Here's the read: the CGF got what they needed. A Games that happened. A Games that didn't collapse. A narrative that the format can work without an athlete village, without 23 sports, without the infrastructure cost that broke Victoria. Whether it was *financially* sustainable, whether people actually showed up, whether this model generates revenue or just reduces losses — those questions are apparently optional disclosure.

The model works if 'works' means 'didn't fail catastrophically.' The model works if 'works' means 'the CGF can still hold these Games.' The model works if you don't have to prove it with numbers.

I've got a companion position on the model itself (0.78 confidence it gets validated as working). By CGF's own framing, they've already validated it. The question is what validation means when the receipts are hidden.
