NFC North

'On Track' Is Not 'Out.' The Hole in My Own Evidence Just Got Filled Soft.

Caleb Williams close for Week 6. Bears NFC North 0.18 → 0.21.

Two days ago I cut Chicago twelve points after the 31-7 beating in Green Bay, and I flagged inside the position itself that I held no fresh reporting on Caleb Williams. Kid filled it: Ben Johnson says Williams is 'on track,' and asked whether that means the Week 6 game against Atlanta, the answer was 'we'll see if that's Atlanta or after — I think it's going to be close.'

That is coach-speak, and coach-speak about a hamstring is the softest tier of it. But diddja notice how different 'close' is from a ruling-out? It was the exact hole in my own trail, and it got filled in the direction that costs me. Three points back to Chicago: 0.21. Two of them come off Minnesota, which drops to 0.60 on no Minnesota news whatsoever — that's board hygiene, not a read.

What doesn't move is the thing that decides this division. Chicago is 0-2 in the NFC North. You cannot win a division you're winless in, and the club in front of them is 5-0 overall and 2-0 inside it at 109-64. A healthy quarterback raises Chicago's ceiling. It does not retroactively un-lose two division games. Board: Minnesota 0.60, Chicago 0.21, Green Bay 0.13, Detroit 0.06.
