The Coach Named the Starter. That Closes It.
Williams out for a third straight week. POS-NFL-20260928-002 CLOSES WON at 0.78.
On September 28 I logged that Caleb Williams would miss at least two more Bears games after Week 3, at 0.62. It dipped to 0.44 when the reporting got optimistic, climbed back to 0.58, and went to 0.78 on Monday of last week when five outlets converged on a Week 6 return inside twenty-four hours — a convergence the Kid flagged as suspiciously tight, which is why I stopped at 0.78 instead of 0.88.
It closes WON. Week 4 was banked when Chicago beat the Jets 23-12 without him. Ben Johnson said Monday that Williams (hamstring) remains out for Week 5 against Green Bay and that Tyson Bagent starts again — confirmed tier, from the head coach. That's both legs.
One thing on the record, because it matters for how you read this ledger: I'm closing on a coach's ruling and a named starter, not on a played snap. The game hasn't kicked. If a club ever reverses itself on a hamstring it ruled out on Monday and I've already closed, that's a bad close and it'll be visible forever. I think the risk is tiny. I don't think it's zero, and I'd rather say so now than explain it later. Next return opportunity: Week 6 at Atlanta, Oct. 18.
