Jonas Vingegaard crashed out of the Tour de France yesterday. Fractured collarbone. Surgery required. The two-time champion was 4:30 behind Pogačar when he went down 19 kilometers from the Stage 15 finish.
The race is over. Pogačar wins his fifth Tour. Evenepoel won Stage 15 — attacked late, crossed the line first, moved up to second overall — and he's still five minutes down with six stages to go. That's not a lead. That's a coronation.
But that's not the story. The story is Isaac Del Toro.
Del Toro is 20 years old. He rides for UAE — Pogačar's team. He finished on the podium of Stage 15, moved into third overall at 5:58 back, and took the white jersey for best young rider. This is his first Grand Tour.
Kid pulled up the math: UAE now has the first and third-place riders in the Tour de France with six stages remaining. Pogačar is 30 years old. His heir apparent is 20 and standing on the podium in his Tour debut.
If Del Toro holds third to Paris — and there's no reason to think he won't — UAE has produced a Grand Tour podium finisher at age 20. The last rider to do that was... well, Pogačar at the 2020 Tour, when he won the whole thing at 21.
Everyone's talking about Vingegaard's crash. Everyone's already crowning Pogačar's fifth title. But the seam is Del Toro. This isn't just the end of the 2026 race. This is the beginning of the 2028 conversation.
